Nextcloud Hosting from Germany – Your Data-Sovereign Cloud
Want to share files, calendars and documents across your organization without handing your data to a US cloud? eledia.cloud runs Nextcloud for you – in a German, ISO 27001 certified data center, GDPR-compliant including a data processing agreement. Nextcloud is open source, so there are no license fees and no per-user charges. You pay for the hosting, not for headcount.
What is managed Nextcloud hosting?
Nextcloud is an open source platform for file storage and collaboration that you run on your own servers. Running it is the real work: server maintenance, updates, backups, hardening and monitoring. With managed hosting we take all of that off your desk and you simply use the finished platform.
You get a configured, maintained Nextcloud instance under your own address, with your accounts and your permission model. No IT department required, no server room. If you want the direct comparison with self-hosting, see rent Nextcloud.
What can Nextcloud do?
Nextcloud covers the core building blocks of everyday collaboration in a single interface, behind a single login.
- Files. Central storage with folder structures, share links, version history and sync to desktop and mobile devices.
- Calendars and contacts. Shared calendars for teams, classes or committees, plus shared address books. Connects to common mail and calendar clients through open standards.
- Talk. Chat, audio and video calls inside Nextcloud – useful for quick coordination while you work.
- Groupware. Tasks, notes and team features turn plain file storage into a shared workspace.
- Extensibility. Nextcloud can be extended with apps for additional functionality. Which apps are available by default and which we enable in addition is something we clarify during setup.
Office in the browser with Collabora Online
Collabora Online adds a full office suite to your Nextcloud: documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the browser, with several people editing the same file at the same time. The files stay on your server – no document is handed to an external office service.
For schools and companies that is the decisive difference from US cloud office products: real-time co-editing, but on infrastructure you control. More about Collabora Online →
Server location and GDPR
We run Nextcloud exclusively in Germany, in an ISO 27001 certified data center. You receive a data processing agreement (DPA) that governs how your data is handled, and transfers are encrypted.
That keeps you in control: you decide who has access, how long content is kept and when it is deleted. We have collected the points your data protection officer will want to review on a separate page. Nextcloud and GDPR →
Connecting Nextcloud with Moodle
Nextcloud and Moodle complement each other. Moodle organizes courses, assignments and grading; Nextcloud handles shared file storage and document editing. As a certified Moodle Premium Partner we deliver both from one source and align the hosting of each.
We set up the technical integration – file access from Moodle and single sign-on – to match your environment. If you are planning learning platform, video conferencing and cloud together, look at the open source suite and at Moodle hosting.
Nextcloud vs. US cloud services
| Criterion | Nextcloud at eledia.cloud | Typical US cloud services |
|---|---|---|
| Data location | Germany, ISO 27001 certified data center, DPA in place | Often globally distributed data centers, transfers to third countries possible |
| Billing | Based on resources and storage, no license fees and no per-user charges | Usually a subscription per user per month |
| Lock-in | Open source and open standards, export at any time, move to your own server possible | Proprietary formats and platform ties make leaving harder |
| Extensibility | Open source, extendable through an app ecosystem, custom adjustments possible | Feature scope defined by the vendor |
