Rent Nextcloud – Your Own Cloud Without Running a Server

You want to use Nextcloud, but not build, harden and maintain a server for it? With eledia.cloud you rent a fully configured Nextcloud instance in a German, ISO 27001 certified data center – with updates, backups and German-language support. You sign in and start working; the infrastructure stays our job.

Renting instead of self-hosting

Nextcloud is open source and free to install. The difficulty is not the software, it is the long-term operation: security updates, server hardening, backups, storage expansion, monitoring, and the question of who picks up the phone when something breaks.

When you rent, we take on all of that. You get your instance under your own address, with your accounts and your permission model, and you keep control over content and access rights. For what the platform actually does, see the overview page Nextcloud hosting.

Renting Nextcloud vs. self-hosting

Criterion Renting from eledia.cloud Self-hosting
Effort Setup and operation handled by us, no lead time for procuring servers Provision, install, configure and maintain the server yourself
Updates Applied and tested by us You track releases and install them regularly
Backups Part of the service, with a defined retention scheme Concept, implementation and restore tests are on you
Security Hardening, encrypted transfers and monitoring by us Hardening, patch management and threat detection in-house
Support German-language expert support with a named contact Community forums and documentation, unless you hire a provider
Responsibility Operations with us, governed by a data processing agreement; content and permissions with you Technical operation and documentation duties entirely with you

The comparison does not say which option is better – it shows where the work lands. If you have server expertise in-house and want to use it, self-hosting is a reasonable choice. Everyone else avoids a permanent maintenance task by renting.

What is included in a rental plan?

  • A ready Nextcloud instance. Configured, kept up to date and reachable under your own address. We clarify at ordering whether your own domain or subdomain is included.
  • Server location Germany. Hosted in an ISO 27001 certified data center, GDPR-compliant including a data processing agreement. Data protection details →
  • Storage as needed. Billed by resources and storage, not per user. We will tell you the included storage sizes and the terms for upgrades on request.
  • Updates and backups. Security updates and regular backups as part of the service. We will tell you the cycle and retention period on request.
  • Office in the browser. Collabora Online for documents, spreadsheets and presentations with real-time co-editing. More details →
  • Talk, calendars and contacts. Chat, audio and video calls plus shared calendars and address books are part of Nextcloud.
  • German-language support. A named contact instead of an anonymous ticket queue. Support →

Who benefits most from renting?

  • Schools without an IT department. Running a school cloud is rarely something teachers can absorb alongside their lessons. Solutions for schools →
  • Small and mid-sized companies. Data-sovereign collaboration without building a sysadmin function first. Solutions for companies →
  • Associations and clubs. Volunteer-run organizations need a setup that survives the next change of board. Solutions for associations →
  • Organizations with documentation duties. A data processing agreement and documented operations make evidence easier to produce; the final assessment is made by your data protection officer.

If you need a learning platform and video conferencing alongside the cloud, you can get all of it from one provider: rent Moodle, rent BigBlueButton or the complete open source suite.

What does renting Nextcloud cost?

There are no license fees for the software, because Nextcloud is open source. What you pay for is hosting, storage and support. Plans are based on storage and usage intensity.

We will quote the right plan size and price on request. See pricing →

Frequently asked questions about renting Nextcloud

What exactly does "renting Nextcloud" mean? You use a Nextcloud instance that we operate for you and pay a recurring fee for it. The software itself remains open source.

How long does provisioning take? We agree the provisioning date with you when your order arrives.

Can I add storage later? Yes, storage and server size can be adjusted during operation. We will tell you the terms and lead time on request.

Do I still own my data? Yes. You remain the controller; we process the data on your behalf under the data processing agreement.

Can I move from renting to my own server later? Yes. Nextcloud uses open formats, so exporting and migrating are possible – that is the difference from proprietary cloud services.

Does renting pay off compared with self-hosting? It depends on whether you already run servers in-house. Once that staff time is off the table, the comparison usually looks clearer than the bare server price suggests. What Moodle costs walks through the same logic for the learning platform.

Can Nextcloud be used in a GDPR-compliant way? Yes, when it is hosted in Germany with a data processing agreement and a clean permission model. Your data protection officer can review the specifics on our data protection page.
