The digitally sovereign open source suite from Germany

Learning, video conferencing and collaboration do not have to mean four contracts with four vendors. eledia.cloud delivers Moodle, BigBlueButton, Nextcloud and Collabora Online as one open source suite from a single provider – GDPR-compliant in a German, ISO 27001-certified data center, run by a certified Moodle Premium Partner with more than 20 years of experience.

The four building blocks at a glance

Each block solves one clearly defined job. Together they cover what many organizations use Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for today.

Building block What it does Typically replaces
Moodle Learning management: courses, assignments, quizzes, certificates, progress tracking proprietary LMS platforms, MoodleCloud with its 750-user limit, course admin by shared drive
BigBlueButton Video conferencing for teaching and training: whiteboard, breakout rooms, polls, recording Zoom, Microsoft Teams meetings, Google Meet
Nextcloud Files, sharing, calendars, contacts, chat and groupware OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Exchange
Collabora Online Office in the browser: text, spreadsheet, presentation with real-time collaboration Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs

All four are open source. There are no license fees and no per-seat costs; you pay for operations.

How the building blocks work together

What sets the suite apart from buying each piece separately is the connections between the systems.

BigBlueButton as a Moodle activity. Teachers create a video conference right inside the course. Participants join from the course page – no second tool, no second password. See the integration →

Nextcloud as file storage for Moodle. Course material lives where your team already works and can be embedded in Moodle instead of being maintained twice.

Collabora inside Nextcloud. Documents open in the browser and are edited together, without the download-edit-upload loop. Read more →

Shared single sign-on. One login for every block, connected to your existing user directory. That cuts support effort and turns disabling a departed account into a single step.

Which of these connections make sense in your setup is something we clarify up front. We check which directory services and protocols can be connected in your environment.

Available separately, stronger together

You do not have to introduce everything at once. Every block can be booked on its own, and many organizations start with one and add others later.

One provider for every block means one point of contact, one data processing agreement, one server location and coordinated update cycles.

For schools, companies and associations

Schools and training providers. Teaching, video conferencing and file storage in a sovereign environment, without per-seat licenses for hundreds of accounts. Solutions for schools →

Companies. Staff training, onboarding and records in Moodle, collaboration in Nextcloud, meetings in BigBlueButton. Solutions for companies →

Associations and clubs. Volunteers work with changing accounts and without an IT department. That is exactly where managed operation pays off. Solutions for associations →

How to get started

  1. Define the need. What tasks are coming up, which systems are in use today, how many users do you expect?
  2. Pick the blocks. One, two or all four – the order follows your most pressing problem.
  3. Set up the environment. We provision the instances, including domain, certificates and backups.
  4. Connect them. Single sign-on, BigBlueButton in Moodle, Nextcloud as file storage.
  5. Bring in your data. Import existing courses, files and user lists.
  6. Roll out. Short training sessions for administrators and users, then go live.
  7. Run it. Updates, backups and monitoring stay with us; you get named contacts. See support →

Frequently asked questions about the open source suite

Do we have to book all four blocks? No. Each block works on its own, and the connections between them can be added later.

Is the suite GDPR-compliant? It runs exclusively in Germany in an ISO 27001-certified data center, with a data processing agreement. Details on Moodle and GDPR and Nextcloud and GDPR.

What does the suite cost? There are no license fees for the software; you pay for running the blocks you choose. Pricing →

Do we need our own IT staff? No. Installation, updates, backups and scaling are handled by us. For day-to-day administration in Moodle and Nextcloud, one trained contact person is enough.

Can we bring existing data with us? Yes. Moodle courses, files and user lists can be imported. Scope and effort depend on the system you are coming from.

Does the suite work alongside systems we want to keep? Usually yes, through open interfaces and standard protocols. We check what is possible in your case before you commit. Contact →

What happens if we want to move away? All blocks are open source. Your data is stored in open formats and can be exported or moved to your own server.
